COURSE OBJECTIVE:  TO PROVIDE A FUNDAMENTAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES IN CREATING YOUR OWN PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLAN AND HOW TO WORK WITH THE PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS IN THE PLANNING AREA (INSURANCE AGENTS, BROKERS, REAL ESTATE AGENTS, CPA, ATTORNEY BANKER, ETC).

 

TEXT:  Personal Finance by Jeff Madura (2nd Edition)

 Pearson Education, Inc (Addison & Wesley)

 

TEACHING METHOD:  Primarily lectures using power point, some problems for homework, class discussion, real life examples and creation of your own financial plan.

 

TYPE OF WORKLOAD:  Student is expected to read chapters assigned and be prepared for class discussion.  Questions may be assigned for homework.  There will be 3 tests plus final exam.  There will be a financial plan due at end of semester.  The final grade will be cumulative.  Tests will be multiple choice, true or false, fill in blanks and essay.

 

 

Your grade will be determined as follows:

EXAM 3                                  15%

FINAL EXAM                        20%

CLASS PARTICIPATION     15%

FINANCIAL PLAN                20%

Attendance is required –Make-up exams must be scheduled.  If there are compelling reasons why you must miss class, please notify me as soon as possible.  Exercise courtesy during class discussion.  Please do not monopolize discussion and do not sit idle during discussions.
