These meetings are to the student’s benefit, as they are designed to enhance the professional work experience.

                                    Total                                                                          100%

Since quizzes, homework and in-class exercises comprise 25% of the final grade in this class, consistent attendance is almost essential for getting anything higher than a C. Assignments will be given out in class and posted on Blackboard.

I understand that this class is demanding, with the 75 hour requirement in addition to classroom time, however I expect you to attend class on a regular basis. You are responsible for everything discussed or handed out in class.

If you are absent for a quiz or in-class exercise, you will receive a 0.  Late homework assignments will be accepted with a penalty of -10 points per calendar day that the assignment is late.  After 10 days, late work will not be accepted.

All assignments are to be typed; handwritten work is unacceptable.

Internship Rules:       Once you have secured an internship opportunity, please provide me with the contact information for your supervisor so that I may contact him/her directly.   It is up to you and your supervisor how you will accumulate the 75 hours.  At the end of the semester your supervisor will sign off on an evaluation sheet stating that you met the 75 hour requirement for completion of this course.  I will provide you with a time sheet that I highly suggest you use on a regular basis to keep track of the hours and tasks you complete.  Keeping up with your hours on a regular basis will avoid any confusion at the end of the semester!

Please view this internship as a “real” job and treat it with the same serious intent.  A few guidelines to follow:

·        Always be on time!

·        Inform employer ahead of time if you are going to be absent for any reason and make up any absences.

·        Dress in an appropriate manner for the office in which you are working.

·        Keep up with you journal, particularly in the areas of number of hours worked and tasks completed and be prepared to share this information with me or your supervisor at any time.

·        Don’t hesitate to ask for help if a task you are asked to perform is above your skill level.

·        Always act in a professional manner, i.e. in meetings turn cell phones and pagers off and respect the smoking rules of a particular office.

·        Come directly to me if anything you consider unethical or illegal is asked of you during your internship.

Final Project:              You will need to keep a journal of your experiences during your business internship. Please note that this journal, which will form the basis of your final project, accounts for 50% of your grade.  Whether you keep it daily, weekly or monthly, I expect to see great detail. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST WEEK TO TRY AND RECREATE THE DETAILS OF WHAT YOU’VE DONE.  I WILL KNOW & YOUR GRADE WILL REFLECT IT!!!

You should include in this journal, activities and skills developed, projects participated in, descriptions of the supervisory style of your manager and others that you worked under, analysis of whether or not this is a career in which you wish to spend the rest of your life, reflections on the experience, and anything else that is relevant to your internship.

Your journal should reflect the full 75 hours that you spent in the internship.  The final project should contain:

·        Cover sheet with date, your name and your contact information as well as the name of your supervisor and contact information for your business internship opportunity

·        Cover letter addressed to me

·        Current resume

·        Journal

·        Work samples (if applicable)

·        Evaluation form signed by your professional business internship work opportunity supervisor

All materials should be typed on 8.5 x 11 white bond paper, one sided.  Materials should be submitted in a bound version (either a 3-ring binder or some form of spiral or comb binding with a hard cover).  Spelling, grammar and punctuation count!

Exams:                       You will have one exam in this class at the end of the semester that will account for 25% of your grade.  It will be all essays and will include the material covered in class.

No make-up exam will be given except under highly extenuating circumstances and with prior approval of the instructor.
